Why did you decide to participate in the NYC Experience?
I have always dreamed of being a model since I was a little girl. Since I am only 5’6″, runway modeling isn’t something I have the height for. Commercial modeling is something that I would love to pursue and I wanted to go to NYC so I could really see if this was something I wanted my future to look like.
Did your focus change once you were in NYC? If so, how?
My focus changed when I was in NYC because I was seeing all the other careers and aspects that are in the modeling and fashion industry. It really opened my eyes to look at not just modeling but a whole bunch of other amazing careers.
Talk about three lessons/ah-ha moments you came away with.
Talking with Charlie from FFT, he kept saying It’s not about you meaning with commercial print you are acting and trying to sell that product.
Next, talking with Amy who made the 30 under 30 list for Forbes Magazine. She was homeless and was working so hard at any job she could get her hands on. She said if there’s something you want, go get it and make it happen because we tend to always say to ourselves something is too hard or we can’t possilby be able to make it. She really inspired me to never give up and if there’s something I want, I can do it if i put my mind to it and work, work, work!
Lastly, Karen always giving such great advice. I remember her saying if there is something you want, make it into a routine. You should be doing whatever it is six days a week and rest for one. That really showed me that if there is something you really want, you have to work for it…hard. Everyday can be a challenge, but to keep pushing and doing it six times a week.
What was your very favorite part? Least favorite?
My favorite part was the photo shoot with Shawn Elhers. I have always loved being in front of the camera and Shawn was such a fun, exciting, amazing photographer.
My least favorite, I really don’t have one. I enjoyed everything about this experience!
Is there anything you would change about the trip?
The only thing I would change is I wish I could have gone to Brooklyn Bridge just because my name is Brooklynn and it would have been so cool to see! But it gives me a reason to go back now 🙂
What advice would you give to someone considering the NYC Experience? Why?
I would say it was such an amazing experience. The fashion industry is not easy at all and you have to be willing to work hard. I got opportunities to meet such high-end people on this trip that not many people get to encounter. It opened up so many doors for me. Go on this experience because you won’t regret it and Karen is just such an amazing woman to be with! This experience gave me so much information that I will hold for a lifetime!
What else would you like me to know about your NYC Experience?
I had the best time ever. It wasn’t just go, go ,go from agency to other buildings, there was time to shop, have amazing dinners, and just make great memories! I’m so glad I went because I am so much closer with my Springboard family and I made friendships that will last forever. Most of all, I made such amazing memories that I will never forget.
